AYE-AYE MATIES...IT= S ALMOST TIME TO MIGRATE TO MALLETTS BAY!! THINK SPRING!!

Page 1 of your 2008 sailing club newsletter has miraculously appeared on our web site--miracles never cease!!! Be sure to check out the rest of the club news page for new pics, new rules quiz, sailing trivia, race results & more. One of these days I= ll go totally electronic (holy geek squad, Batman..Robin is crawling out of the ice age!!!!!!) with this newsletter, but after 20 some years it=s hard to teach an old salt new tricks!! So I hope everyone has weathered a somewhat A normal@ Vermont winter well. Mud season & ice out should be upon us in short order. We can all yearn for the hazy, hot & humid days to enjoy our Malletts Bay playground once again. Woo-Hoo it= s time to get psyched for sailing!!!!!!

OPENING DAY 2008

Well May 10th may sound quite late for our opening day, but there is a method to the madness. April can be a challenging month weather-wise for our annual Spring work day. I= ve scheduled the date for Saturday April 26th from 10:00am to 4:00pm which is the day our Spring gala traditionally falls on. I= m hoping mother nature will be more cooperative in the temperature department so lots of cleaning, painting & waxing can occur vs. trying to have it too early on the 19th. The Doyle Matriarch hits the Big 8-0 on Sunday May 4th; so your commander in chief plans to spend an important week-end in Connecticut. Boy, if I have Betty= s genes I= ll still be racing in 2040!!!!! Our 21st annual Spring Gala & Awards Ceremony will be pushed ahead to coincide with our 28th commissioning day. So plan to be at the clubhouse on May 10th from 5-9:00pm!!!! A lot of folks are always on vacation in late April, so perhaps this later date will accommodate a boost in attendance. This is always a festive eventB open to allC whether you= re a racer or not!!! A time to celebrate the arrival of Spring & our glorious sailing season. Free grub & grog will be on hand & trophies will be distributed to the victorious racers from the 2007 racing season. To get you thru mud season; there is a new rules quiz on our web site kindness of Ulmer/Kolius Sailmakers. Check it out...racers so you= re ready to go on Wednesday May 14th!!!!! Remember our racing is supposed to be low- key & fun!!!! Anticipate the close encounters in advance and always try to sail clean & fast!!!!!

                      FIRST SPLASH OF SEASON???                                                                       BATTENING DOWN THE HATCHES IN 2008

The 2 Solings that used to be down @ The Moorings, Inc. for                           With the state of our economy in question; ISC has been
the winter are now snuggled behind the clubhouse. So sticks up;
                   forced to question the sanity of all it= s freebie events &
quick splash are a thing of the past. Don= t think anyone will break
               seminars. While membership rates will not change in > 08;
Erol Bayar= s first sail of season recordB April 19thB anytime soon!
              we plan to charge a nominal fee for barbeques & clinics.
My brother gave ISC a flatbed trailer to mount a Soling cradle on
                  Nothing has been cemented yet, but we=re heeling towards
and arranged the acquisition of a towable hydraulic trailer.
                             $5.00 per head for BBQ= s (bring a dishB no charge) &
I= ve been towing the smaller boats on cradles up from the marina
                  $15.00 per person for ISC sailing clinics to cover instructor
to avoid their $39.00 per foot winter storage fee (yikes!!) My little
                 expense. Also; I= ve raised the private lesson & bareboat clinic
Dodge Dakota that could is creaking & moaning, but getting the
                   rates & eliminated the grad/club member rates. My rent has
job done! We hope to have a few Solings splashed in April, but no
                   increased by 25%!!!! so be forewarned.....mooring fees will
guarantees.
                                                                                                                  unfortunately have to go up a lot in 2009 much to my dismay.
