CATS & THE BEACH-BOAT LIFE
Our beach showed up in a timely fashion in 2007. We had the cats & dinghies rigged & ready by mid-June. Would love to see more members getting the lead out and taking advantage of our beach boat fleet. We have (4) Lasers, a Laser II, (2) 420's, a Hobie 18' and a Hobie 16'. The Hobie 18' definitely got a lot of high speed use last summer which was great to see. We hope to get the club= s Nacra 5.8 splashed & ready to roll in 2008!!! And racers...remember we have 2 lasers that would be somewhat competitive on the Tuesday nite laser racecourse. If you= re ready for a big challenge to improve those racing skills; there= s no better way!! Bunches of fun & great exercise to tame this little torture chamber!!! Speaking of our beach.....our Fall work day was such a huge success I plan to make this an annual event!!! We completed the dinghy, dock & beach boat winter lay-up in just over an hour. John & I used to break our backs doing all this lifting alone when we were A young & foolish.@ So many thanks for the great turn-outC you couldn= t wipe the smile off my face...until I realized I forgot about the work whaler on the trailer behind the building!!! aargh...A little yankee ingenuity combined with my truck & ropes got the job done, but it took awhile!!! I= m also very pleased with the evolution of the ISC floating dock system. Two more floaters arrived from the Doyle Boat Yard in Connecticut last summer. This brings the total to 5 sectionsB it almost has a A yacht clubby@ feel to it!!!! Plenty of room for 4 Boston Whaler launch boats which is a dream when lots of classes are in session. Now if we could only make our outboards user friendly we= d be in business; but learning all those troubleshooting techniques has it= s advantages. Actually..it= s the high levels of ethanol used in gas now that creates carburetor havoc with the 2 stroke outboards these days. Anyhoo...sail the dinghies this summer!!!! We= ll show you how to rig them & where the gear is stored by appointment....just let us know when you= ll arrive.
NAUTICAL SNIPPETS & TIDBITS
BORROW BOOKS FROM OUR NAUTICAL LIBRARY Our book inventory was enlarged last fall thanks to Dan McAuliffe= s gracious donation of his entire collection of sailing books!!!!! This guy did his homework...no wonder he's so fast on the racecourse!!!! The fall series racers were ecstatic over the fireside winter reading options that Dan provided. Some of these books were not signed out properly; so please be sure to return them in the Spring!!!! I will be sure to have a healthy supply of book marks/sign-out forms hanging by the bookshelvesC be sure to fill out & insert stub in envelope provided. We also remind you that books should be returned after a two week period. We have acquired quite a nice inventory in the last 28 years; so be sure to peruse our nautical book selection. Thanks again, Dan for your generous donation!!!!! And while I= m at it...Dan= s wife Sandy, deserves a round of applause as she is the one responsible for making our flower displays look so gorgeous. She= s been our A fabulous flower lady@ for many years!!!!!
AMERICAN SAILING ASSOCIATION IMPLEMENTS NEW $39.00 CERTIFICATION FEE FOR 2008 For those of you who procrastinated taking the ASA basic keelboat test; an additional $39 fee will be required for those students interested in starting the ASA certification ladder process. This is a ONE TIME ASA CERTIFICATION FEE to set you up in their database and also includes ASA membership. No future fees will be required for advanced levels or other courses such as small boat or multihull. Also; ASA will not require students to renew their ASA membership at the end of the year to keep your student certification current. ISS chose not to raise their rates to include this fee as some clients prefer not to get certified.
